Sandi McKinley: Transforming Social Sector Finance & Strategy

Sandi McKinley is the founder of SectorWind, a boutique consulting firm dedicated to strengthening financial health and strategic effectiveness for nonprofits and philanthropic organizations. SectorWind works exclusively with nonprofits facing significant change, challenges & opportunities and funders seeking to more effectively support their grantees through impactful programs and strategic capital deployment.

With over two decades of experience serving more than 1,500 nonprofit organizations, Sandi is a nationally recognized expert in nonprofit finance who isn’t afraid to challenge outdated practices.

Before launching SectorWind, Sandi spent nearly 14 years at Nonprofit Finance Fund (NFF). As Vice President of Advisory Services, she led the daily operations of NFF’s national consulting practice, delivering innovative, relevant, and impactful services. Notable achievements during her tenure include developing the Financial Leadership Clinic, Program Economics Analysis, and the original Full Cost Methodology.

Earlier in her career, Sandi provided strategic guidance and philanthropic counsel to foundations, family offices, and their grantees. In addition, she held leadership roles in prestigious institutions such as the Institute of Contemporary Art, American Repertory Theater at Harvard University, and The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Frequently sought-after for her expertise, Sandi regularly shares insights on nonprofit finance and sector strategy through speaking engagements, publications, and media appearances. Her quiet power and wicked sense of humor make her relatable and engaging, enabling her to effortlessly connect with diverse clients and audiences.

Sandi holds a BA from Rosemont College, an MA in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from Simmons University School of Management, where she has also served as faculty. Additionally, she actively contributes as a member of various nonprofit boards and advisory committees.

When not reshaping the nonprofit landscape, Sandi can be found hiking near her Boston-area home, enjoying life with her husband, two teenage sons, and five pets.
